Santorini. White walls, deep blue waters, gorgeous cloudless skies. The landscape in Santorini is exactly how own would image. However, that is if you were to ONLY stay in Fira/Oia, and look out towards the caldera everyday. Judging from this statement, you can probably guess that that's not what I did.
On the first day my friends and I were at Santorini, we decided to walk around Fira, seeing as we arrived in the afternoon with not to much time to spare. We stayed in a small hotel in Perissa, and had to go to Fira anyway to get to other parts of the city, so we decided to explore that small town first.
Fira is the main town in Santorini where all of the buses pass by, and the only connecting point with the biggest bus interchange for the whole of Santorini. So it was only natural that that was our first tourist stop.
To get one of these amazing views, all you had to do was climb up a couple flights of white concrete stairs, and voila!
Although the views were stunning, there isn't much else to do in Fira besides eat and shop.
There weren't many art galleries, or museums, or anything else, the church at the front of the town was also not opened to visitors. I was pretty bummed about that because the architecture on the outside was so cool, and so unlike any of the typical european churches!

The great thing about Fira, is that its food options are abundant. And somehow restaurant owners have this foresight to design their restaurants such that they all face sea and everyone gets the great iconic view whilst eating.
We didn't plan our food options before hand, and so we decided to go in to the first restaurant with the tripadvisor winner logo, and it worked. The food was AWESOME. I loved the pita bread dips, and the texture of the short grain pasta, which tasted like a combination of pasta and rice.
I know I barely wrote anything about Fira in this post, but truth be told, IT IS WHAT IT IS. Fira has great views, and that's it. Of course it has lovely white walled winding streets lined with loads of typical tourist shops, but I'm not really into that sort of things.
Also, there were a ton of lovely jewellery store, but they were all so expensive, it was most definitely out of my budget, I just got bored of window shopping after a while (the shops sell pretty much the same variety of things too). So my friends and I ended up going for fruit yoghurt drinks, and just talking the day away.
Still, for the view, it's a good thing to pop by Fira, half a day/a full day is more than enough, so make sure you have more planned for Santorini when you visit! My next few posts will probably give you some other ideas of what to do ;) Stay Tuned!
