styling

Coloured pants, pastel pants, apparently they are both on trend! - Well did not expect that to rhyme! Hahaha!
I've had this pair of Blue Pants for a while now, but I rarely wear it because of the colour. Its not like your common blue denim as its a little more vibrant in terms of its shade.Well that was why I bought it to begin with. I got it from a random online store when coloured jeans were in, and before summer comes / before I return to Singapore and I hack this pair of pants up into shorts, I decided to make full use of it for what it is.
I first shared an outfit with this pair of pants here and it was one colourful one with contrasting colours of reds and blues, so in this post, I styled the pants with 2 other more neutral colour palettes.

I've been seeing a lot of sweater dress over pants combo lately, in fact they've actually been around for a while, but i've never tried it because I always thought it would make me look short and frumpy. But I decided to just give it a go, and paired my dark green sweater dress with this blue pants. It turned out to be more of a sweater than a sweater dress because it was not one of those extremely baggy dresses, so I guess i'd have to try that dress-pants silhouette again another time.

If you're not a fan of colour, and cannot do more than 1 colour in an outfit, pairing everything with grey and black always works :) Keep the rest of the outfit to just white/grey/black, and do away with the patterned scarf if you think its too much. Of course a black coat always tones everything down, so thats one easy trick. I happen to enjoy having more colours and patterns in my outfit, but you know, that's just me!

That being said, I've been feeling the whole scandinavian simple minimalistic vibes lately, maybe its because as of now - IM IN SCANDINAVIA!! So much excitement! Probably going to be adopting more of that scandinavian minimalistic flair in my outfits for the future (Probably not all monochrome - I don't know. I mean, I do like wearing colour after all...)
Anyway, trying to style 1 clothing item in a few outfits is starting to get interesting and fun, even though sometimes I forget and gravitate back to matching it with the same things, but well, this is how I entertain myself, and force myself out of my room daily - because staying in bed the whole day whilst listening to Audible is really tempting! Besides, it's my way of showing you don't need to constantly buy new clothes to have different outfits - even though Primark and the coming mid season sale is very tempting, buying 2 or 3 key items is better than buying a chunk load, after all money can be spent elsewhere... like y'know, buying a ticket to Scandinavia ;)

MASH UP: Blue Pants
6 April 2015 London, UK
BLACK IS THE NEW BLACK.
I never get the statement (whatever colour) is the new black. NEVER. I mean black is neutral, black is classic, there is no way pink or green or purple will EVER be black. Pft!
Ok, I will stop talking as if black is my all time favourite colour to dress in.
Honestly, I'm never really dressed in black... I mean, not all black at least. I do wear black, but I love having a little bit of colour in my outfit. No matter what.
Going all black is safe. Its like one of those brainless formulas when it comes to dressing up. But like I said before giving the outfit a little pop of colours using accessories prevents it all from being too... One Colour. Also this formula is extremely easy for people who have statement accessories or bold coloured scarfs but don't exactly want to be a full on paddle pop ice-cream.
I decided to give this All Black + Pop of Colour formula a go when I was traveling from London to Berlin on an early morning flight. It was suppose to be my comfortable-plane-ride-transit-to-walking-around-the-city-outfit.
I must say, getting ready that morning was to my surprise - so easy! Black shirt, black leggings, Dark-Grey (almost black) Coat, DONE. Playing with colours, yet keeping everything neutral, I chose my accessories to be in the same colour range with the maroons and browns. It isn't a crazy amount of colour, but it adds a little spice to a monotone outfit!
I wonder why I never used this more often! Especially since I have bags and shoes in all sorts of odd colours from green to bright blue. I don't have to shy away from coloured accessories now.
This formula works with almost anything really. If you have a bright yellow bag, or a bright pink blazer and don't know how to pair it, Go ALL BLACK + Pop of Colour. It literally takes 2 seconds to put the outfit together, and it looks as though you put some thought into balancing everything. Plus it makes your dark wintery outfits look a little livelier and vibrant! It works for any type of dressing, formal, casual, day-time, night-time, anytime (hence the term formula, ok fine, everyone get it, i'll stop saying that now).
If you do want to get out of your house FAST and need a fail proof outfit, use this formula and be out of the house in seconds!
Besides, almost everyone has a black top and black bottoms (or a regular black dress!) in their wardrobe right? And because black is CLASSIC, and always in, this a formula that will work EVERY SEASON in the year, regardless of your country's climate conditions.
Here's one day and one night outfit that took me 5minutes to put together (all images/items from ASOS).
P.S. Formula Works for guys as well!
Adding colour to your outfit doesn't take that much effort now does it?
