A little bird told me that white denim is in this spring summer.
I admit, I love looking through style.com to find out whats in, reading magazines, watching runway shows. But, I don't really enjoy the concept of trends. I hate the idea that something will be in for 3 months, and then phase out completely. WHY?! I mean designers typically do SS and FW clothes. So technically, trends should last at least 6 months. Right? But even then, 6 months is too short!
Oh gosh, why did I start off this post with a rant. I blame it only my incessant need to shop, and the lack of money in my bank account for that. Anyway, since white denim is in again (i'm pretty sure it was in like last year or a few years before, I mean, how could you go wrong with white denim?) Im going to do a round up of the looks I style this White Denim Jeans with.
I got this pair of pants from Morgan, a shop in Paris along Champs-Élysée, during a sale last summer. Shopping in the sale section = GREAT BARGAINS. I think it was more than half off :) I brought it to London with me, and have worn the death out of it. I bring it on my trips so often because white really goes with anything. As of now (after bringing it to Scandinavia, through the rain, fjords, and full days out and about), it is sadly, stained everywhere and in need of a serious bleaching.
For a simple white pants, you could always keep to the classic monochrome look and go with black on white, it always works, and its SUPER easy to put together. Minimalistic, and very scandinavian :) Pair it with a long gold necklace to add more of that understated-yet-put-together feel, or a nice statement necklace to give it more spunk.
I think white on white can look very... Labour day or PAP (People's Action Party - a political party in singapore). So when doing a white on white look its best to add a pop of colour somewhere. Shoes, Bag, coat, a nice addition of colour makes the look more interesting. Great way to take the focus away from it being so... pristine and clean. Funny thing. I went for a read cardigan, which makes it a very apt outfit for National Day since red and white are the colours on the Singapore flag. One point for patriotism!
Talking about colour, with white jeans as a base, you can really wear any top with it. Have a printed top that is too out there and you don't wear it enough? Pair it with white jeans, and you're good to go!
Now, I guess its time for me to branch out to other white denim - like my new white denim skirt, and to put this pair of pants in the wash multiple times till the dirty stains come off! Otherwise I might have to hack them into shorts, and that would really break my heart.

Got this button up patterned dress on ASOS a while back on a sale, because it fit 2 of my shopping criterions.2) Suitable for the insanely warm Singapore temperature (30°C)
To be fair, the colour doesn't exude spring summer vibes, but the lightweight material coupled with the long sleeves means my arms have some protection when it gets chilly and I won't perspire under this dress from the summer heat!
I first wore it out as a dress when I visited the London Sky Garden (google london walkie talkie building) with my roommate, and realised that it was way too static-y. I guess either the air was too dry or my skin was too dry.
So instead of wearing it out as a dress again, I decided to use it as a cardigan like overcoat for a more artsy-casual-don't-give-crap vibe, and as a top paired with a denim jacket and black pleated skirt for a more spring appropriate look.
I like that I got the dress in a size up instead of my usual size. I think it looks better with a baggy fit than it would be with a slim fit. Also, since the pattern is quite understated, it makes it easy to pair it with anything in your wardrobe.
The size and "loudness" of a pattern is so important when choosing patterned clothing items. To ensure that its more versatile, always go for smaller prints or simple ones in one or 2 colours like the triangles in this dress.

Coloured pants, pastel pants, apparently they are both on trend! - Well did not expect that to rhyme! Hahaha!
I've had this pair of Blue Pants for a while now, but I rarely wear it because of the colour. Its not like your common blue denim as its a little more vibrant in terms of its shade.Well that was why I bought it to begin with. I got it from a random online store when coloured jeans were in, and before summer comes / before I return to Singapore and I hack this pair of pants up into shorts, I decided to make full use of it for what it is.
I first shared an outfit with this pair of pants here and it was one colourful one with contrasting colours of reds and blues, so in this post, I styled the pants with 2 other more neutral colour palettes.
I've been seeing a lot of sweater dress over pants combo lately, in fact they've actually been around for a while, but i've never tried it because I always thought it would make me look short and frumpy. But I decided to just give it a go, and paired my dark green sweater dress with this blue pants. It turned out to be more of a sweater than a sweater dress because it was not one of those extremely baggy dresses, so I guess i'd have to try that dress-pants silhouette again another time.
If you're not a fan of colour, and cannot do more than 1 colour in an outfit, pairing everything with grey and black always works :) Keep the rest of the outfit to just white/grey/black, and do away with the patterned scarf if you think its too much. Of course a black coat always tones everything down, so thats one easy trick. I happen to enjoy having more colours and patterns in my outfit, but you know, that's just me!
That being said, I've been feeling the whole scandinavian simple minimalistic vibes lately, maybe its because as of now - IM IN SCANDINAVIA!! So much excitement! Probably going to be adopting more of that scandinavian minimalistic flair in my outfits for the future (Probably not all monochrome - I don't know. I mean, I do like wearing colour after all...)
Anyway, trying to style 1 clothing item in a few outfits is starting to get interesting and fun, even though sometimes I forget and gravitate back to matching it with the same things, but well, this is how I entertain myself, and force myself out of my room daily - because staying in bed the whole day whilst listening to Audible is really tempting! Besides, it's my way of showing you don't need to constantly buy new clothes to have different outfits - even though Primark and the coming mid season sale is very tempting, buying 2 or 3 key items is better than buying a chunk load, after all money can be spent elsewhere... like y'know, buying a ticket to Scandinavia ;)

MASH UP: Blue Pants

Red was never a colour that I would go for when dressing up. Even on festive occasions like the Lunar New Year, I would rather choose to wear colours like Pink and Orange, never red. To me, red was always too, bright, too jarring for my eyes. Either that, or it was too vampy, sultry, and sexy, a look I never imagine pulling off in my life.
When I saw this Red Cardigan online, I thought it would be a great colour for fall. The shade of red is darker, so it doesn't appear as in-your-face, which to me makes it a lot more wearable.
Like any other bright colour, styling it with a monochromatic look is the safe way to go, and since I didn't want to choose the obvious black, I styled this cardigan over an all white outfit. White Denim also happens to be in for spring!
I know, it looks a little singapore-national-day-esque with the red and white flag colours, but well, I liked it!
I also wore this cardigan in a previous Outfit Diary, but played with the idea of matching colours, wearing a dark pink berry coloured top with it. With brighter colours like Reds, using the colour wheel would help in styling the outfit.
Instead of going with similar colours, complementary colours like blue and navy would also work well with this clothing item! Making use of a colour wheel is a foolproof way of incorporating some colour into your outfit, and deciding what goes with what in terms of colour!

I think it has been over emphasised and advocated that a Little Black Dress is a wardrobe staple piece. Everyone goes on and on about how it is essential to have that perfect LBD that will save you in the event you have nothing to wear.
At age 15, I bought this black zipper dress from Bebe for a wedding dinner. It was definitely a splurge, which I convinced myself would be worth it as that dress would be a "staple piece in my wardrobe". Unfortunately, I was not a fan of wearing body hugging items on a regular basis, and had no chance of layering it up in the 30°C weather in Singapore.
I have probably worn it only once or twice after the wedding, and since it was suppose to be "staple piece", I took it to London "in the event I needed a dress for a night out". That's what I thought. I have yet to wear it for a night out (since I don't really go partying at night), and so I decided to style this zipper LBD in a more casual way. Here are 3 different outfits I came up with!
If you remember, the 1st outfit was from a previous Outfit Diary. I wore the zipper dress as a skirt in this look which is a really conventional take if I do say so myself. For the 2nd outfit, the folded details of the dress makes it an interesting long vest. I never tried wearing it as a vest, and now that I have, I don't think i'll need to buy myself that long black ASOS vest I wanted!
The last look is my favourite of the lot. Styling it as a top is pretty conventional, but the zipper detailing makes it more interesting instead of just being a plain black tank top look-a-like.

3 different looks from a slightly more streetstyle grunge-esque mixing leather and knit, to a casual outfit great for school/running around completing errands, and lastly, a winter to spring transition transition outfit great for a night out. This Mash Up segment really makes me rethink my clothing item. A black zipper dress is indeed versatile, and I didn't even wear it as a dress!

Unfortunately, it has still been really cold in London. Occasionally the sun would be warm and bright and i'd have some hope that the warmer days are arriving, only to meet with strong winds and rain the next day. Since I promised myself to cut down on shopping, I have to make use of every single clothing item currently in my wardrobe, it includes this thrifted cropped top.
Here's how I styled it 2 ways. The first one is more of a school day outfit. Adopting a dark blue and black palette, I paired this top with high waisted black pants, a blazer to amp up the varsity preppy vibes and my converse.
The 2nd outfit is more suitable for going out for dinner with friends, or a date, but it is still appropriate for school considering the hemline for the skirt isn't too long. I didn't pair it with leggings because it was pretty warm that one day!
The great thing about this cropped top is that it has a high neck line and it hits me just below the belly button. This could be because I have a short torso, but I like the fact that is a longer crop, prevents me from having to show skin in the colder months!
Call me conservative, but, I don't feel too comfortable with cropped tops that are too high or show off my belly. Which is why i've always stayed away from them. I'm typically not one to expose parts of my body (apart from the arms and legs, occasionally the back), so I tend to go for tops that have a longer crop. With the combination of my short torso, it means that I wouldn't be exposed.
Honestly, I can't wait for Spring and summer, I just really miss the sunshine and I desperately want to do away with leggings, tights and pants.
